Introducing Dr. Greg Jones and Rev. Susan Pendleton Jones

On Feb. 1, 2021, Belmont University named Dr. L. Gregory Jones, longtime dean of Duke Divinity School, as its next president, effective June 1. Known for his entrepreneurial leadership and fundraising ability, Jones served as dean of Duke Divinity School from 1997-2010 and again from 2018 to the present. Between 2010 and 2018, he served in a variety of roles, including vice president and vice provost for global strategy at Duke University and also as provost and executive vice president of Baylor University. Dr. Jones is married to the Rev. Susan Pendleton Jones, Belmont’s new First Lady, who has served as a campus minister, a local church pastor and as a senior administrator at Duke Divinity School.

The Inaugural Year:

Dr. Jones began his presidency June 1, communicating with campus and the broader community his vision for Belmont to ‘Let Hope Abound,’ which includes a commitment to five ways of being: Hope Inspiring, Character Forming, Future Shaping, Community Engaging and Bridge Building.
