2024 marked a defining chapter in Belmont University’s story of purpose and transformation. It was a year guided by the attributes of SOUL, a framework that expresses our Christ-centered identity, reflects the enduring values that have shaped Belmont for generations and calls our community to live these principles each day.
SOUL—Seeking excellence with humility, Offering gratitude with joy, Unleashing hospitality through love and Living the dream together with hope—is built on and aspires to wisdom. Inspired by 3 John 1:2, SOUL echoes the apostle John’s prayer for holistic wellbeing, urging us to ask what it means for our souls– and the souls of others– to thrive.
Throughout the year, we celebrated the ways SOUL is shaping our culture and mission, edifying the best parts of our tradition and inspiring bold innovation for the future.
For years, our healthcare programs have embodied excellence, equipping compassionate providers to serve those in need. Our focus on community wellbeing has driven us to do more, culminating in the launch of the Thomas F. Frist Jr. College of Medicine. We welcomed our inaugural class this fall, marking a major milestone for Belmont’s leadership in healthcare. Housed in a new cutting-edge facility, the College of Medicine offers an immersive learning environment that prepares students to thrive in clinical settings.
This year we also launched the Belmont Formation Collaborative– a unique, grant-funded initiative designed to cultivate whole-person flourishing in higher education. By streamlining our current programs and expanding co-curricular offerings, the Collaborative will integrate character, purpose and an entrepreneurial mindset in every aspect of the Belmont experience.
We also announced The CORD–Powerhouse, a dynamic hub for collaboration and creativity. The four-story facility will house collaborative space where great ideas can take shape and creators can connect.
A Belmont education takes place at the crossroads of industry and innovation. We’re blessed to learn from and work alongside the visionaries shaping creative landscapes. This summer we will host the global debut of Dolly Parton’s new Broadway musical, DOLLY: An Original Musical, at Belmont’s Fisher Center. Through Dolly U– a first-of-its-kind program, our students will earn course credit by working on all aspects of the show, from business operations to theatrical production.
I invite you to explore these stories and more in Belmont’s 2024 President’s Report, which highlights how our students, faculty and partners are embracing SOUL to form leaders of character, equip people to solve the world’s complex challenges and radically champion human flourishing.
Thank you for your leadership and commitment to shaping lives of purpose. May we continue to pursue wisdom together, inspiring transformation in our communities and beyond.
Cheers,
Greg
